Iello – Gen Con Press Event!
Earlier I posted a general flyby of our time at Gen Con, one of the events we wanted to give more time to, however, was the Iello event we had the chance of attending.
Let me first explain the aesthetics and then the product.
The event was held at one of the hotels near the convention center; making it easy to find. This was my first press event of the con so I wasn't sure what was in store, but upon arrival it was clear Iello didn't pull any stops; there were tables for both sitting as well as standing, a bar, and a buffet. As a reviewer I felt as though Iello recognized and cared about the value we brought to the table. It was great...

Wild Card Thursday – Mystery of the Abbey
Just about everyone is familiar with the game Clue or one of its many versions. The game has players trapped in a mansion attempting to solve the mystery of who killed their host, where the murder happened, and with what weapon. Players are equally familiar with the game Guess who; attempt to deduct which character your opponent has by asking a series of questions so as to narrow down the possibilities by way of process of elimination. What happens when these games merge? What happens when you find a monk dead at the bottom of a cliff? That is the what players must solve in Mystery of the Abbey.

Follow Up Tuesday – Dominion
In yesterday’s Mechanic Monday we looked at Card Drafting, one of my favorite mechanics carrying over from my days as a MTG Booster Drafter. Today we are following that up with a look at Dominion; a game that was once the new hotness, and after releasing it’s fifty second expansion last month is still holding on in many people’s top 10 lists. (yes the 52nd expansion was an exaggeration there are only 9ish expansions)

Mechanic Monday – Simultaneous Action Selection
Friday I looked at 7 Wonders which uses the mechanics of Card Drafting, Set Collection, Variable Player Powers, and Simultaneous Action Selection. Today we will take a look at the last of those mechanics; I will state first that I feel the name is slightly misleading as the simultaneous aspect of these games is not always action related; I will also refer to the mechanic as SAS as Simultaneous Action Selection.
Simultaneous Action Selection is an interesting mechanic as it serves multiple purposes from forcing players to plan ahead, increasing a game’s pace, to minimizing downtime between turns. Those who know me know there are certain games and mechanics I generally don’t enjoy; some of those being player elimination and larger group games, there are of course exceptions to the rule and Bang! is one of those exceptions.

It is time for Follow Up Tuesday! What is Follow Up Tuesday you ask? Well on Mondays we look at various mechanics then on the day after we follow it up with a game that I think uses that mechanic very well or has revolutionised the mechanic in some way.
