Iello – Gen Con Press Event!

Earlier I posted a general flyby of our time at Gen Con, one of the events we wanted to give more time to, however, was the Iello event we had the chance of attending.

Let me first explain the aesthetics and then the product.

11822286_614872805320250_4878656915942312412_n The event was held at one of the hotels near the convention center; making it easy to find. This was my first press event of the con so I wasn’t sure what was in store, but upon arrival it was clear Iello didn’t pull any stops; there were tables for both sitting as well as standing, a bar, and a buffet. As a reviewer I felt as though Iello recognized and cared about the value we brought to the table. It was great getting to run into people like Bruno Cathala, Antoine Bauza, and the Devil Pig Games team, among many others.

The team at Iello welcomed everyone with a good thirty minute warning before starting their presentation giving everyone time to get refills on their drinks and their food. The area was decorated with many standees from their various IPs such as the King series, Welcome to the Dungeon, and the like.

After sufficient time was given for mingling The presentation began in full. Most of us in the crowd were expecting a few tidbits about the king series, more story book games, and perhaps something relating to more Heroes of Normandie Expansions or possibly more Zombie 15 content. What we weren’t expecting was the sheer amount of announcements they had in store. Note; some of these games are working titles so the name may change once it comes time to ship.

For the sake of time I will focus on the 3 games that most excited me out of the event; if you would like me to do a part 2 to talk about more games let us know on twitter or facebook.

Big Book of Madness. I am a sucker for a game that unravels a story during game play and games that have visual appeal. Iello often excels in both of these areas, but they have hit the ball out of the bark with this one! Big Book of Madness tells the story of kids who opened the one book they were told not to open; each page sends new monsters into the library which they must defeat. The game’s primies, art, and everything else makes this a game I can not wait to get my hands on!

SON_flat_box Shadows over Normandie. When I first heard the title of the game my first thought was that somehow Shadows Over Camelot and Heroes of Normandie had some form of unholy love child; that is not the case. Rather Devil Pig Games decided that Heroes of Normandie was lacking in Cthulhu worshiping Nazis; a complaint I often hear from other while playing Heroes. So they decided to do something about it. Set to release in November; Shadows will have our group of 2-3 friends facing off in a battle between Americans, Germans, and Deep Ones… I for one am very much looking forward to getting this game to my table. There is speculation that there will be additional support released for the game in various forms; possibly even including more Lovecraftian cults.

The final game I am very excited about is one that, honestly, I know quite little about. Bunny Clan; the current working title for the game has a plethera of amazing bunnies… doing something… What I can reveal is that the game is designed by Richard Garfield; one of my favorites and features the art seen below. That is enough to make me want this game on my table as soon as possble! Sadly, however, we will have to wait a tad longer; but as it is said, “anticipation makes the heart grow fonder”.

Finally I shall leave you with this; an unboxing of Little Red Riding Hood; a game that they didn’t have ready for distribution due to the joys of global logistics, but they had a few copies and we got our hands on one thanks to a raffle. A review of the game will be up soon; so stay tuned to the Dice Tower as well as our own channel for all the good stuff coming your way soon!
