Follow Up Tuesday – Dominion

dominionIn yesterday’s Mechanic Monday we looked at Card Drafting, one of my favorite mechanics carrying over from my days as a MTG Booster Drafter. Today we are following that up with a look at Dominion; a game that was once the new hotness, and after releasing it’s fifty second expansion last month is still holding on in many people’s top 10 lists. (yes the 52nd expansion was an exaggeration there are only 9ish expansions) Released: 2008 Designer: Donald X. Vaccarino Plays: 2-4 EPT: 30 minutes We are experimenting with a slightly new format today; rather than give an in depth rule explanation we will merely skim the rules as this isn't a tutorial so much as a review. Wild Card Thursday – Bang!

bang! Those who know me know there are certain games and mechanics I generally don’t enjoy; some of those being player elimination and larger group games, there are of course exceptions to the rule and Bang! is one of those exceptions. The game has four roles the players take up at random...

Magic 2015 – Garruk’s Revenge

For a while now the board game and video game world has been experiencing some cross over; especially in the form of some fantastic app versions of our favorite tabletop games. Today I will take a break from my norm to discuss one such digital interpretation of an analog game; Magic 2015; Garruk’s Revenge. This is the expansion to the most recent set in the Duels of the Planeswalkers series. Garruk's Revenge Having played the last few incarnations of Duels of the Planeswalkers I was more than slightly intrigued by the prospect of a new addition to the DotP family, and I was excited that we would get to play with more cards and thus build more decks. It was thus without delay that I delve into the game upon its release last...
